The main objective of the Březová Reservoir is to protect Karlovy Vary against floods, to secure minimum flow rates in the Březová-discharge water-level recorder profile, and to regularly flush the bed below the dam.

Additional objectives of the reservoir include power production, regulated trout breeding, controlled increase of discharge below the dam for the purpose of organizing canoe races, and the exercise of fishing rights.
