Basalt Organs near Hlinky
The basalt formation may be found in a small shelf quarry where almost a half of a basalt effusion with columnar jointing was denuded. The quarry wall uncovered typical basalt columns or "organs", which are unique in the area. All basalt formations are traditionally jeopardized by potential mining activities. In this case, however, interest in extracting basalt on the site had not been as high before the basalt formation was declared a nature monument. The attractiveness and the bizarre appearance of the basalt organs most probably contributed to the preservation of the nature monument. Nevertheless, low material deposits must have played a role in its conservation, as the quarry is quite easily accessible.
