The club was founded in 1904 and is the oldest golf club in the Czech Republic. The original course was built along the Teplá River in Gejzírpark. Nowadays members of GCKV (Golf Club Karlovy Vary) play on the Karlovy Vary – Olšová Vrata golf course that was designed by the architect C. Noskowski in 1931 and built in 1932. In connection with the long-term lease of the course to the company Golf Resort Karlovy Vary, a. s., many changes were made, contributing significantly to the improvement of the game, especially the complete reconstruction of the tee areas, the building of an extensive irrigation system and, above all, the construction of the clubhouse which complies with the most exacting requirements. The holes on the championship course run through meadows and between forests. As for the land configuration, the course is hilly, which increases its attractiveness, as well as making demands on the player’s quality. Naturally, it is highly maintained and has been the location of major golf tournaments many times.
Play on the first three holes can be viewed from the terrace at the clubhouse before the greens run through a small forest then along the road back to the access road. Neither the ninth green nor the tenth tees are at the clubhouse; however, a log cabin has been built between them and provides refreshments and relaxation for the golfers. Leaving the cabin, the holes will take you up to the most distant end of the course in order to start your return at the 16th hole. The green for the 17th hole is situated across a small lake; following this there is an easier slope for the eighteenth towards the putting green, above which the clubhouse with the terrace is located. The most difficult hole is the sixth which although not more than 500 metres long, is the longest hole on the course. Holes 8, 12, 13 and 15 are also considered to be of interest.
The scenery offered by the course together with above-standard services on offer creates an exclusive course that is often visited not only by spa visitors, but also by other golfers. In cooperation with the Grand Hotel Pupp gastronomic services are offered at a top level.
