Set out for Golf

CihelnyCihelny golf course is spread across the picturesque valley of the Teplá River, 5 km behind Karlovy Vary towards Mariánské Lázně. The 18-hole championship course was inaugurated on 26 May 2001. In the area of the course there is the 18 hole Honey pitch & putt course, a putting green and a covered driving range plus a restaurant, terrace and pro-shop. The course has been sensitively merged into the surroundings, and although it is not particularly long, with its large number of water areas and nature as well as simulated hazards and bunkers it represents a challenge for every golf player.

The name of the Black Knight is associated with the course in Cihelny and for those who do not know this nickname, we mean Gary Player. This South African, one of the three best golfers of his time ( the others were the Americans, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer) whose play always held spectators in suspense, has stamped his name on the construction of golf courses in the Czech Republic through his project office and he also designed the course in Cihelny.

CihelnyOn the first hole, the green can be seen from the tee. An attractive hole is the fifth; the tee is above the rock finishing at the green, but there is a track behind it. Water hazards also start to appear at further holes although much enjoyment is still waiting for you, particularly after crossing the access road past the railway stop to the second nine. Golfers call it "water world" which is not exaggerating in any way and the majority of golfers take extra balls for safety. There is also a strategic hole – the fifteenth, where the golfer has two options for how to reach the green. Those without nerves drive the ball through the trees to the peninsula, from where they can reach the green with their second shot.

The less adventurous tend to take one or two more strokes on the "left way". Moreover, this course where Astoria GC Cihelny is located has one of the best practice areas, including the Honey Course, where a short game can be practised.

CihelnyThe course situated in the valley of the Teplá River nearby Karlovy Vary towards Mariánské Lázně is worth playing - if you are not successful, you can always relax in the surrounding countryside.
